July Chapter Meeting – Grid Resiliency / Preparing for a Black Sky Event

Natural disasters and cyber attacks seem to have come one right after the other this year. This seems to be an opportune time to have a panel of electrical and water industry experts to discuss grid resiliency and “black sky” event planning necessary to prevent supply chain failures.

Join us in person or on line. In person attendance is limited to 30 due to social distance protocols. Attendance is free to either. Optional box lunches for the in person event are $10.

This extended meeting will run from 11:00 until 1:00.

First, we will hear from Jesse Causey, Global Process Automation Cybersecurity Leader at Corteva Agriscience. Jesse is our Chemical Sector Chief and will talk for a few moments about the recent FBI led training on Precursor Chemical and Explosive Training.

Then we welcome John W. Heltzel, Director of Resilience Planning at the The Electric Infrastructure Security Council. John will discuss the role of the EIS Council and global resiliency then talk about the 2021 Earth Ex black sky simulation exercise.

Next we’ll hear from Mike W. Woods with Southern Company, on protecting the electrical grid in terms of physical security and intelligence gathering.

Rob White, President of Alabama Rural Water Association, will discuss water supply safety and what is being done to protect our water supply in the aftermath of the Florida and California cyber attacks.
